A Happy New Year to all AskGavino readers and commentators!

Last year was momentous for us, with the launch of this new site.  AskGavino aims to produce thought provoking articles imbued with the value of personal freedom.  We didn’t know what sort of reaction we would get.  Looking back on this past six months, we think the comments posted on this site by YOU are insightful, intellectual and, of course, provocative.   Refreshingly, the words “dude’ and “psyched” haven’t appeared once!  Please keep them coming and let the world know what YOU think about the issues of the day!

Here's hoping 2010 turns out well...

Here's hoping 2010 turns out well...

2010 promises to be a remarkable year.  Politically, it will be interesting to see how President Obama reacts to a sluggish economy and concerns over record deficits.  Will there be a dollar crisis?  What sort of breakthrough will Republicans make in the mid-term elections?

Both in the United States and on a broader scale, the global warming debate looks set to heat up, if you pardon the pun.  In the United Kingdom, David Cameron is poised to replace Prime Minister Gordon Brown.  How will he assert himself on the world stage?  Will Irans’s brave pro-democracy activists succeed in expanding freedom as happened in central and eastern Europe two decades ago?  And if they do, who deserves – and who will take – the credit?

In June and July, people around the world will be glued to television sets for the soccer World Cup, hosted for the first time in the continent of Africa.  Will Brazil win the competition yet again?

Whatever happens in 2010, we hope that the new year will bring you peace and prosperity – and that the articles and comments on this site will prove enriching and rewarding.

Best Wishes,

Gavino.
